Joyful, natural and stress free

When you have small children and you would like to get some professional family photos taken, it does not have to be a stressful and draining experience. I can assure you that it can be actually exactly the opposite and here I can share with you one family that had some fun and received beautiful family memories as well. As outdoor family photo shoots with small children are my favourite ones, I sat down at the weekend to note down a few things how I make these family sessions easy for parents, enjoyable for children and fun for everyone, including me:

1. Connecting with families and children

What I really love about my job is sharing the experience of being a parent. All the ups and downs, the funny moments or the dreaded tantrums. I really enjoy the talks during our photoshoot and I always make sure to create a nice  and friendly atmosphere so you can forget about the camera and enjoy the time with your loved ones.

2. Beautiful natural backdrops

The locations are my backdrops for family photography and I have places that are both great for kids and families and also look amazing in photos. Secondly, every season brings some unique opportunities for photos and I always try to get the seasonal details in the photos too. Whether it is the daisies on the grass or the daffodils in blossom or the changing leaves in autumn.

3. Blankets and props that would go with the colour scheme

Not only is the location and the light important for family photography, but also some nice props like picnic blankets can enhance the final look of your photos. I am building my collection of blankets for photo shoots and I keep them in natural muted tones so their colour scheme goes well with the surroundings, season and your clothes too. Secondly, I also share my What to Wear Guide with my families to help them to select the best clothes that would improve the final look of their photos.

4. Really knowing my favourite locations

The first half of 2021 was really challenging for all of us as the pandemic hit us harder than we could have imagined, but it has brought us some good things too. I have found my favourite outdoor locations, I have learned about the seasons and the light during the day and each season too and I am really honoured to be capturing family memories in some really amazing and spectacular places. And if you think that you know a beautiful place that I have not visited yet with my camera, please let me know! I would be really honoured to meet you there. You can just simply get in touch here.

5. Children can be just themselves and have fun

As a mum of two very active boys, I have a lot of practice following my children with a camera in my hand. When I want to capture some beautiful and natural portraits of children, it is not only about the camera settings or my ability to run, but also about the connections and the engagement with your little ones and this is a my favourite part of my job as a family photographer as well!

These images were taken in May and if you wish to have similar images taken in May 2022, you can now get in touch as my pre-reservations for April – May 2022 are now open.

Simply get in touch by email michaela@littlethings.ie or you can also drop me a message HERE.

Looking forward to hearing from you!

Michaela

"Michaela Mac Donnell came to our house one sunny Sunday morning and spent a few hours with us capturing our life as a new family. She is such a lovely person and so easy to work with. It was like having a friend in the house as opposed to a stranger and she just observed us and took photos, with as little intervention as possible. Her use of natural light, beautiful composition and ability to capture the best of us meant I got exactly what I was looking for and far more beyond that. Thank you Michaela.
