Outdoors, in-home or in a studio?

If you are thinking about professional family photography, one of the questions you might think about a lot is the location of the photo session: in your home, outdoors or in a studio? There are so many reasons I could list below for each location, but there are also a few questions that you should ask yourself before having the final decision done:

1. What is the age of your little ones?

If you have a toddler or children between 2-5 years of age, outdoor family sessions are great fun and definitely something to go for. If you love the time spent outdoors with your children, then a session in a park is a win-win.

2. What kind of photos you would like to get?

If you prefer the natural moments, the photos that reveal a bit of your child’s personality and you would like to have a photo of their favourite activity when they are just themselves then outdoor photo shoots or in-home sessions give plenty of opportunities for beautiful natural portraits. Childhood can be sometimes bold and wild and if you would like to have some photos of these moments too, then you can add another tick to the outdoor photo shoot.

3. How many images would you like to get?

But what if you are really looking for just one photo? Sometimes we really need just one family photo that captures the family in the more traditional way. You and your loved ones in the best clothes and ready for the camera with the perfect smile. If yes, a studio photographer would really suit your needs in this scenario.

4. When to go for an in-home session?

If you are planning a newborn or a baby photo shoot, your home is the ideal place especially in the winter months. You would not believe how little is needed for some beautiful natural newborn photos and every home is just perfect! So never think that your home is not worth hosting a photo shoot.

To sum up a few points, I am more than happy to meet you and your little ones outdoors or in your homes for some fun, for the natural and in-between moments in the places you love and belong the most. I will capture the tiny moments and the big personalities, I will try to see you as you would see yourselves and hope to always delivery the gallery you will love, the slideshow you will re-watch and the photos you will print for the walls.

If you would like to book a session for 2022, my bookings are now open and you can pre-reserve a slot by completing the questionnaire HERE.

Enjoy the images shared in this blog post and a big thank-you to my clients for letting me share them here too.

Have a lovely November everyone!

Walking along the beach always brings some calmness to my heart. The sound of the waves, the breeze playing with my hair and the sea shells catching my eyes every so often. A beach is a great place for family memories, so many lovely opportunities for play, a great...

"Michaela Mac Donnell came to our house one sunny Sunday morning and spent a few hours with us capturing our life as a new family. She is such a lovely person and so easy to work with. It was like having a friend in the house as opposed to a stranger and she just observed us and took photos, with as little intervention as possible. Her use of natural light, beautiful composition and ability to capture the best of us meant I got exactly what I was looking for and far more beyond that. Thank you Michaela.
